By app, you have the clip imported directly to the app, but you have to manually select the New button to start the clip snipping process. So, either way, there is a flaw, per se - via shortcut, you get to snip directly, but it saves only to clipboard. The only way to do that now is to open shell:AppsFolder via the Run dialog, then right click snipping tool and select create shortcut, which it will only create on the desktop, and then open properties and set up a different shortcut key.īut this only opens the app, it does not automatically start the snipping process. The old Snipping Tool was a manually installed app, and you could set a separate shortcut key for it in order to launch it. And using Win + SHIFT + S makes it behave the same - you get opened directly to the snipping part, but it only saves to clipboard, and you then have to click it to have it open in the app to mark up and save.
For whatever reason (I suppose because by default Print Screen uses the clipboard even if not tied to the Snipping Tool), the use of the short cut key for Snipping Tool ties it in with the normal Windows function of sending output from Print Screen to the clipboard.
